Autumn is beautiful in Dublin. All the leaves from the trees falling fast, decorating the ground in bursts of yellow and gold, and red.
And in this casual family photo shoot with this gorgeous girl in Carysfort Park, Blackrock, the emphasis was on the color red.
Red. Bright & bold. Red gloves and red leaves.
Two pops of red in the frame, the gloves mimicking twin leaves.
We explored hand gestures with the gloves, to make the mood a bit more dramatic. More to show from this session soon - WATCH THIS SPACE!
I also have two of these sisters I took in their back garden where the blooms were starting to brown. As well as in spring & summer, flowers can make beautiful backdrops in autumn when they give a faded quality with lovely texture
As well as timeless, cinematic family, child & baby portraits - I love color. This seasonal autumn family session, allowed me to experiment with lush natural & rich color. In autumn the tones are more subtle & aged, which I love
I adore the white-balance tool in Camera Raw, and this has been a great find. Using this little magic brush tool on an area of neutral color (the whites of the eye, for example), the tool automatically adjusts all the tones in the image.
White balance is something I have corrected fairly instinctively up until now and so it will be interesting to be more forensic about the process.
Lately, and perhaps because of all of the unease in the world (because of covid-19, ugh), I've wanted to re-discover vibrant, life affirming color!

Here are a few pictures from my Carysfort Park family sessions for now. Including an autumn family photography Dublin session I did with mum, dad & gorgeous baby boy. This family wore woolly hats but the weather was mild enough to shed coats. Mild autumn weather can be warm enough for outdoor baby & natural newborn portraits. More to come soon here too!
