Hi, I'm Cara! a Dublin family photographer.
Families are starting to think about booking Dublin Communion Family Portraits. It's an exciting date for your diary, usually in May here in Dublin.
Communion sessions can be in a location you love, either outdoors, or at a special a venue - or indoors, in your own home and garden! I am a natural light photographer so I don't do studio Communion sessions: I travel to you and your family, and I also do local sessions in Blackrock.
All my sessions include the photo shoot and a full curated, edited gallery of images. There is no need to pick and choose favourite images - you automatically get all the best photos included with your session price. Sessions start at 450 euro for local sessions and 475 euro for other locations, from 45 minutes. You can expect 50-60 photos in the gallery with a variety of traditional portraits and totally natural moments with no posing required! See my FAQ page
(Unless, of course, you want to pose!)

A recent carefree moment in a Communion family photo session taken last year in Airfield Estate Dundrum in Dublin! Airfield was a beautiful location for this session.

Whether you're after traditional family portraits with your communion child, or a Documentary Style Session, I like to pair timeless portraits with authentic, free spirited moments. A Communion session is usually a mix of both styles for variety in your gallery...
Below, a traditional communion family portrait. This was a local family Communion session between mass and celebrations - my local sessions run through the year in Blackrock and Seapoint Beach, near Monkstown. However, I travel to many other locations in Dublin - and beyond!

And with all the family, below in Airfield Estate and Garden, Dundrum. This is a great location for Communion family sessions as there is plenty of shade and interesting planting.

For Communion parties with a larger group of people - extended family and friends - you can expect lots ofvdocumentary family photography moments . Your gallery will tell the story of your day, from big celebratory moments to little details.
Communion Parties: Traditional Communion portraits alongside natural moments
A joint Communion and birthday celebration at home in the garden - no two Communion celebrations are the same and there are plenty of natural moments of connection at a party! This was last year, May 2025.
Below, this little girl had just got out of her Communion dress and it was time to eat cake!

Dad running down a sand dune by the sea with his communion girl here!

Below, a Communion portrait I took at home in a garden in Dundrum. A moment of connection with dad.

As a Natural Light Family Photographer I LOVE to make the most of any good window light!
This photo was taken at a hotel where the family were having a party.

Below, another more traditional Communion portrait, this one taken in K Club in County Kildare. Many Communions are on very sunny days around midday and so it is important to look for shade, either outdoors under the shade of trees, or inside!

And a twirl in the hotel grounds at the K Club - I love this little girl's parasol!

Below, strike a pose - this little girl wanted to show off her beautiful gloves, in her garden at home. I will always take more traditional child portraits of the Communion girl or boy. Often children do like to pose, but if they are shy and prefer not to - there is plenty of opportunity for relaxed portraits through the session.
I tend to edit in warm, vintage inspired tones or classic black and white

I love this little Communion girl's freckles!

Black and white really emphasizes gesture and expression. Your gallery will have a mix of colour and some black & white photos also
A home Communion portrait in the garden. This little girl relaxed in the branches of a tree. - a moment of rest after a busy day!

Communion portrait with Communion boy and his brother and sister, all so smartly dressed. in a stone courtyard in a local garden in Blackrock.

Below, dad hugging his communion boy and other sun as they take a stroll under the dappled light of trees.

Sitting communion portraits on a blanket. It was midday on a super hot communion weekend in May, but we found shade under a tree!

Here are a few more pictures from an Outdoor Communion Session at Donadea Forest Park
Another black and white Communion portrait - this girl got to climb her favorite tree in her communion dress. It was s super hot day afternoon with little shade, so I embraced the dappled light

Tree branches make great natural perches for portraits!

(Below) this lovely communion girl swinging from a favorite tree in golden sunlight in Donadea Forest Park.

Below, documentary style communion in the Liberties, Dublin. The family gathered in a park for lemonade and balloons after mass.

Capturing more balloons at a family party, this time in Dunlaoghaire!

Dad and his daughter at a Communion celebration after mass in the park!

One of my personal faves - these little girls playing in the park after Communion mass in the Liberties.
