UPDATED POST Jan 2026
Hi, I'm Cara a Dublin Family Photographer.
I specialize in outdoor and indoor family photos. Many newborn and baby sessions are done in your own home and garden, from when your newborn is just a few days old - just home from the hospital!
Below, a recent session done when this baby boy was just a few days old!
I love window light, and below, the soft lamp light adds to the warm, cozy feel.

Below, some more beautiful relaxed newborn portraits.

Also, check out this page for all my Baby & Newborn information.

I will do a mix of documentary family and more traditional baby and family portraits. Below, nice and relaxed on the sofa...Oh, and I LOVE to include your pets!

When dad lifted the dog's ears as mum fed little baby boy! An adorable moment....

I like to play with aperture so that sometimes one person is in sharper focus and the other is in soft focus. This is also known as "depth of field"
Another fun tip is to get down to baby's eye level. Shooting photos from baby's own eye level can make the world seem intimate and also expansive at the same time - just as your newborn experiences it!

Baby and mum fall into background bokeh but doggie is very sharp and in focus.
Dublin In home Family and Baby Sessions are relaxed, natural and furss free.
In home sessions are simple. There is no need to pack and go to a studio, I come to you. I usually find that 10 am in the morning is good for most families with small children and babies, but I can come at a time that suits your family.
There is NEVER need for a big tidy up. I might ask you to clear away plugs and cables, but we can always do that as we go around your home taking photos! Piles of clothes and baby blankets and bottles... well, that's all part of the story...

I will find the best light in your home.
I will scope out the best light in your home. Obviously window light plays a big part, but I am also a fan of low light. This means even a small slice of light can be perfect for atmospheric child and baby photos.
What do I wear for my in home family session?
I always give tips for my in home family and baby sessions. Your new baby is the "star of the show", so it's a good idea to coordinate with your baby. Wear clothes you would normally wear around the house, as it looks more natural in the photos. Pale neutrals will always work with your baby, as well as soft pastel colours. I also think families look good in earth tones - brown, taupe and rusts. Also to celebrate your newborn, you can go for bright colours but it's good when all family members have a pop of the same colour, so the eye is not drawn to the person wearing the brightest colour only.

My photo shoots come with a curated baby and newborn gallery.
My sessions include the photo shoot as well as an edited and curated gallery. My editing style is a blend of classic black and white family photography and vintage inspired, warm colour tones.
There is no need to pick and chose favourite pictures, you get the whole collection of best photos that tell a story - see my FAQ page for more info on my sessions.
When baby is older we can get outside & take the dog for a walk!
When baby is older, outdoor locations are perfect for families, including other siblings, family members - and in this case, a fluffy white dog.
Many of my sessions with older babies take place in the park or at the beach, in locations all over Dublin - but you can often find me in Blackrock, Booterstoen, Stillorgan, Dundrum, Ballbridge, Dunlaoghaire, Monkstown and Dalkey Village.
If you'd like to start planning your newborn session in your own home, or book a session, please get in touch!
Have a lovely week, Cara xx
