Photographing your baby at home - because Home is where the Heart is xx
Newborn pictures are often done within the first couple of weeks, when baby is still all curled up. But whenever you feel ready is always a perfect time.
I'm Cara, a Dublin family photographer and an in home Dublin Newborn photographer. I also do maternity and family photo sessions in locations you love outside.
I have put together a blog with a variety of Newborn photos to give you an idea of what to expect from your Newborn gallery.

All my sessions include the photo shoot and also an edited and curated gallery of images, 50-60. So you don't have to pick and choose favourites, you automatically get a complete collection. Having a collection allows you to make up an album. Also, favourites can change over time.
My family sessions, which include newborn, start from 490 euro for a 45 minute session. You can see all my family sessions, also suitable for baby and newborn under FAQ.
You can often find me in Blackrock, Booterstown, Stillorgan, Ballsbridge, Dundrum, Monkstown, Dunlaoghaire and Dalkey Village - but I travel all over Dublin photographing babies and growing families.

You don't need to travel to a studio with your Newborn - I can come to you!
The wonderful thing about a newborn session in the comfort of your own home is that you don't have to travel anywhere, I can come to you. This keeps things natural, fun and fuss free!

I see your home as a character in your newborn story: Every room, piece of furniture or decor - adds to the atmosphere of your newborn photos.
Your home doesn't have to be tidy by any means! Children's drawings stuck on the fridge, height charts scribbled on the walls, toys on the floor - and piles of laundry - add to the lived in, real life feel of your beautiful home. In other words, there is no need to have a big tidy up. I might just clear plugs and cables out of the way as I go around taking photos.

I will make the most of the light in your home.
Some houses gave abundant natural light, whilst others are much darker. Window light is the source of natural light in a home. With soft, plentiful window light you can expect family portraits that are evenly and beautifully lit. Shooting directly into window light can create back lit portraits that have a particularly soft, even hazy quality that can be very atmospheric.

However, please don't worry about your home being "too dark" - I love to scope out sources of natural light in unusual places. Also, low light can produce beautiful, dramatic baby portraits.

I focus on natural baby positions and expressions, no need for stiff poses!
I will take the lead from your baby and newborn and capture them as they are. Much of the session will naturally be you taking care of your baby as you would if I wasn't there with a camera. Below, mum in the nursery with baby boy.

I will photograph your newborn alongside any other children. Your baby's brothers and sisters are so important to capture and I will also do photographs with just them. Also, the pets!

I LOVE the gorgeous hand and feet gestures newborn babies make when they are still all curled up...

Newborn feet are a detail I love to focus on. Newborns like to kick and as they did in the womb, within the first two weeks of birth....

Your Baby Gallery. Timeless Black & White and Vintage Inspired Colours.
I always include a mix of colour & classic black & white in my family and baby galleries. I prefer warm, soft vintage inspired colours.

What should we wear for out baby's session?
I send tips to prepare for your Newborn session. The most important thing is to feel relaxed and comfortable - especially if you've just given birth! With newborns, parents don't have a lot of time to think about what they're wearing.
I suggest keeping wardrobe as simple as possible. This couple wore matching jeans and white T-shirts. Think about what you'd be comfortable photographed in naturally around the house at this time...even PJ's can work well. Usually baby is the star, so think about colours that will compliment your new baby - soft colours including white and also deep earthy browns can work beautifully. However, new baby's bring celebration and joy, so go for bright festive colours if you feel it! Red, pink, yellow and other colours can give a sense of life and joy!

What About Older Babies?
I love to photograph babies of all ages! Although newborn sessions can be done immediately after birth, and up to two weeks after birth, baby is still all curled up = babies are beautiful at all ages. There are so many unique developmental stages.
Below, baby girl's first steps on her birthday! At this age, babies really start interacting and its so fun to capture that!

Dublin Outdoor Baby Sessions, or in your own Home and Garden.
When I do in home family and baby sessions, I always do a few pictures in the garden if possible.
