Updated post: I LOVE taking pictures of older children & teenagers. It's important to remember that our teenagers will always be our babies. They are such an important part of any family photo shoot.
And I love to do portraits, including Summer family portraits Dublin, of JUST older children, teenagers & adults too!
For example, debs & graduation portraits Dublin are important events to celebrate. This can be photo shoots with all the family done outdoors or in your own home. As well as on the day of the event, these photo shoots can also be done more casually before or after the event. Dress up or keep it really casual & relaxed.
Here is part of a wheelbarrow photo series of my own daughter that I took over summer holidays over the past couple of years. We did mini outdoor family photo shoots in the meadow by the house. (As I said in my previous blog, these pictures were inspired by Juergen Teller's portrait of Kate Moss in an old rusty wheelbarrow. I ADORE that picture!).
I thought the old wheelbarrow we've had for years would be the perfect prop.
These are relaxed family portraits done after her graduation to remember how she looked in this period of time...
Of course teenagers can be self conscious, but when they come out of their shell or relax in front of the camera, they are magical! It's all about making older children & teenagers feel comfortable inside their own skin. That way they can shine from the inside out...
I love these pictures in both natural, vibrant color as well as soulful black & white portraits. However there are times when color really does have the power to evoke memory and mood.
Although I aim to capture subtle expressions and gestures that are more intriguing in my emotive family portraits, there are times when a parent just wants to see their child looking HAPPY. I love her carefree laughter in these pictures here.
By shooting into a flare of light here, with the sun in front rather then behind, I could capture rim light around her hair which adds to a feeling of hot summer evenings.
It is fun to experiment with light coming from all directions for different effects.
It was a very bright time of day when I took these family portraits of my daughter. The sun sets so late in summer! However, the trees offered some shade from the harsh mid afternoon light & I like to include the long shadows on the ground.
